The Brazilian Lawyers Association (ABA) has no similarity or conflict with the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), since the latter one has its mission defined in the Brazilian Federal Constitution and under the Law no. 8,906/94. Only OAB can, for instance, performing the act of selection of lawyers and probationers as well as initiate inspection on the professional activity of Advocacy. Also it’s the only competent entity for processing and discipline of lawyers who break the rules of Professional Ethics/ Code, while ABA has the goal of assisting its associates. Furthermore, ABA has no similarity to any syndicate or to any Lawyer’s Institute. ABA has the specific task of representing its associate’s interests in the employees party of the labor relation. OAB, historically, created by D. Pedro II, in 1843, had the incumbency of creating the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) and today it is exclusively dedicated to the study of the Judicial Sciences.
